The Academy of Free Abilities (ALA) represents a cutting-edge educational ecosystem that breaks down the post-diploma isolation experienced by young people with cognitive disabilities, transforming the academic environment of the University of Udine into a space for experimenting with a new educational model for social inclusion.

Through synergy with Fondazione Radio Magica ETS, the project is structured around theoretical lessons, workshops, and educational visits, with a stable year-round schedule aimed at strengthening autonomy and practical and relational skills. It offers students a structured and dignified pathway that harmonizes care with personal growth, striving for the full expression of each individual within a context of inclusive higher education.

Program of Activities

Our educational catalog aims to ensure equal access to education through reasonable accommodations, offering engaging academic content that is both stimulating and relevant for future employment. From hands-on archaeology in the field to digital storytelling in our radio workshops, every activity is designed to transform potential into real skills. Discover how our students become active participants in cultural heritage and in their adult lives through an innovative, scientific, and deeply human teaching approach.

Research

Driving social innovation.

ALA serves as a privileged observatory for future professional educators, who can put classroom theories into practice by designing educational interventions alongside a multidisciplinary team. Social innovation within the framework of new disability policies calls for working not for the person, but with the person. ALA brings together students with and without disabilities to pioneer this new approach.

New languages for accessibility.

Innovation at ALA is driven by technology and creativity. We use podcasting tools and digital storytelling to make the cultural heritage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia accessible to everyone. We do not limit ourselves to removing physical barriers; we go beyond cognitive ones, creating original communication formats that give a voice to students with disabilities and open up new opportunities for inclusive employment in tourism and museums.
