The body that communicates: harmony as a language
The Motor Skills and Well-being Workshop is a space dedicated to discovering the body as a tool for relationship-building and storytelling. In this module, movement is not only physical exercise, but a profound form of expression that allows students to explore their emotions and connect with others beyond words. Through rhythm, balance, and coordination, students learn to perceive space and inhabit it with awareness, transforming every gesture into an act of freedom and self-confidence.
Learning Goals
The workshop aims to develop body awareness and social interaction through specific objectives:
- Body Awareness: Improving perception of one’s body, posture, and motor control in space.
- Emotional Expression: Using creative movement to channel and communicate moods and sensations.
- Coordination and Rhythm: Developing the ability to follow rhythmic sequences and synchronize movement with music.
- Relationship and Trust: Enhancing group work and trust in others through contact exercises and group choreographies.
Methodologies
Person-centered approach, placing the uniqueness of each student at the center and valuing diverse possibilities of movement and bodily expression.
- Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), where movement becomes a tool for expression, body awareness, and emotional well-being.
- Guided improvisation, with open motor tasks that stimulate creativity, body awareness, and expressive freedom.
- Experiential learning, through direct experience and mindful repetition.
- Valuing the process, emphasizing experience and participation over final performance.
Educational materials
Large and safe spaces, suitable for free movement, free of obstacles, and organized to ensure comfort and safety.
- Wall mirrors, to support body awareness, movement observation, and mirror-based learning.
- Mats and suitable flooring, for floor-based activities, relaxation, and safe movement practice.
- Diverse sound stimuli, a selection of music and sounds (tribal rhythms, classical music, environmental sounds) to accompany and modulate movement.
- Small motor equipment, such as ribbons, hoops, balls, and other lightweight objects to facilitate sensory exploration and expand motor expression.
